Color (houses)

This is an easy one. Simple and to the point. Do not paint your house pepto bismol pink. Do not do it, no matter how compelled you may be. Do not paint your house such a horrid color. Who cares if it is on sale. Who cares if your buddy from the lodge got a great deal on 50 gallons. I repeat, do not paint your house pepto pink. Thank you.

the world wide web

I've had a couple of discussions today about our friend www. The world wide web. You know, it has become a vehicle for nutters, weirdos, super intellects and me. What I'm saying is that it gives people who don't necessarily have great social skills a venue. A forum. Sometimes people take the internet too seriously. I just watched a new video by a great indie band and the comments just made me laugh. The fact that people can comment is amazing and again, gives some people a forum for unloading when what they are saying is pretty much irrelevant to the subject. There was a time when I would get sucked in to these comments and such. I just find it as amusement anymore. We use to have to write letters to editors, by hand and submit comments in a more formal way. Now, if a comment section is open, let the freaks loose!

There was an article on a local news website and the comments were insane. People just see it kind of like an open microphone. This is a place where strange people let their minds go. Get therapy. Find friends. Watch and observe how people interact and you too may find yourself with friends. Social skills people.

The flip side to this is that there are some real creeps out there and they now have access to people. So my advice is to be careful. Screen people. Think first and make sure you really know who you're chatting with. I've heard terrible stories. We all know that there is a lot of bad out there. Caution is something we all have to exercise anymore. Anyway, the internet has given so many people a voice. That is what makes it so interesting.

Look Before You Leave

Look in a mirror before you leave the house. Think about your entire ensemble. Should I really wear a long printed wrap around skirt with croc's, a printed t-shirt and the most god awful sunglasses that I won at a carnival for eating pie the fastest? No, you should not. I am a huge fan of wearing a print and stripes, or stripes and stripes, but the 60's hippie weird thing just isn't happening in most major cities anymore. Except for Berkley and Boulder. And even then, you should think twice. I like free spirits. I like going against the grain, but I like doing it with style. Be a trend setter, not a walking disaster. Be free with your clothes, but don't look like you belong to a band of gypsies, unless you really do belong to a band of gypsies. We all have days where we wonder, why did I wear this, but to the majority of the population, you probably look presentable. I'm talking about the major disasters. Those people they find for the closet, wardrobe rescue show. You don't have to have money or riches to dress well. A t-shirt and jeans is acceptable. A skirt and t-shirt is fine, but just think about the outfit as a whole. Just look in the mirror before you leave your house. If you look like a clown, try again. Thank you.

well hello there

My first little posting. I need to share a little something that has been on my mind for a couple of weeks. Exclamation points. (!) With all the electronic communication available to us, it has become an overused punctuation mark. I love this little mark, don't get me wrong. I have been known to leave a few in a row. But everything cannot be that exciting. We all live such exciting lives, but really, let's use this (!) a little more carefully. It is as if everyone is trying to make their post, their text, their story more important. We are all screaming over each other. It is even worse when someone types in all caps followed by (!).

It is appropriate for teenage girls to use it (!). It is rather expected from them. It is not okay for adults in their fifties, or forties, or even thirties to use more than two in a row. It just isn't. And it depends when, don't you think? I may be wrong, I often am, but I really think we have to be careful with (!). One is more than enough when posting on a social website or sending an email to a group. In a text, you can use more, when you're being funny. Know your audience is something I say often. This may seem preachy, and I am anything but that. Recently though, I've encountered !!!!!!!! and it just makes me go a little cuckoo. My problem truly, but it has to be said and we should all be more careful.

Be judicious people!

Thank you.
